A Sloping Garden re-designed and built in Thornton Le Dale, turning an unusable area into a much-needed useful space that reflected the house.
Designed to create useable spaces and level lawns using matching Yorkshire walling stone and sympathetic materials and plants.

Project overview
Located in Thornton Le Dale near Pickering, this new build house featured a sloping lawn, and no other discerning features. The existing garden was not useable, and difficult to manage on a slope over 2m across the width of the garden.
Taking reference from the house and its location, we created a design proposal that tackled the difficult issues of the existing slope to create a large level lawn area, and various level seating spaces. Space for planting was also developed to create privacy where needed, whilst adding colour and texture throughout the garden.

Garden Design and Build Project Highlights
Being able to create a comprehensive and workable solution for the issue of the sloping garden provided a good transparent framework for the build team to work to. Using natural materials and selected plants worked together with the layout and the house to create a garden that felt right for its location.
- Usable lawn space, seating areas, and planting zones helped bring the garden together.
- Lighting was integrated too to create mood lighting on an evening.
- Traditional matching materials were used to help anchor the garden to the house.
- Privacy planting was used to enhance the usability of the space.
- Budgets were adhered to through using gravel in some areas.
Our experience in creating complex terraced gardens was important here, for the design and build stages.
