A contemporary new build garden design and build project in Pocklington, created to deliver clean lines, modern materials and an easy-to-maintain outdoor space suited to a busy lifestyle

Project overview
Designed off plan as the builders were finishing off, with a view to making a start before the clients moved in, this new build home in Pocklington presented the perfect opportunity for a contemporary garden to be planned and delivered from the outset
Pocklington has seen significant growth in recent years, with a mix of new homes attracting homeowners returning to Yorkshire. Our clients had recently moved back after time away and wanted a turnkey garden design and build service that reflected how they wanted to live.
Our garden design service took inspiration from early discussions we had with the client and focused on creating a garden that worked effortlessly around their busy lifestyle. The brief called for an end-to-end service where design and build flowed seamlessly, delivering a modern, low-maintenance garden they could relax in without added upkeep
“Richard, John and the team did a great job on our new build garden. From the initial design before we moved into the house through to the project itself everything has been excellent”
This garden was designed to look its best year-round, with minimal maintenance required.
The Site & Brief
The brief focused on using modern materials, creating usable space in all seasons, and introducing planting that added colour and interest without demanding hours of ongoing maintenance
The key objectives were to:
- Create a garden design and build proposal that fit with their new build home and busy lifestyle
- Introduce colour and structure with low-maintenance planting
- Bringing in a project on time and on budget
- Incorporate garden lighting for winter visibility and atmosphere
Working off plan and meeting via video calls allowed us to develop and present the garden design proposal while our clients were still living away. Materials were selected, the design approved and a build slot secured before we met in person for the first time. Construction began just as our clients moved in, ensuring the garden was ready to enjoy immediately.
Project highlights
As a new build home, ground conditions were mixed but the site was bare, so marking out on day one was quite simple. This gave us a chance to walk the client through the proposed design on the ground before we made a start with excavations.
The build process was efficient and well organised, with all materials, machinery and scheduling coordinated by our in-house project manager.
- A fully detailed garden design showing layout, levels and cable routes
- A step down to lawn level provides interest whilst working with the existing levels.
- A new shed tucked away at the back of the garage provides space for tools and a lawn mower
- A separate patio with metal pergola with adjustable roof louvres provides a contemporary structure whilst creating an all-weather space
- Garden Lighting helps to highlight certain plants and trees
- A simple layout with easy to maintain plants for a stress-free garden
Working to a specific timeline was essential for our clients. Having one design and build team responsible for the entire process ensured clear communication, accountability and a smooth delivery.
Working to a specific need is completely achievable and we can tailor our communication to suit clients who live away if required.
