An unusable sloping garden for a new build home in Thornton Le Dale, Pickering transformed into an attractive, usable space our clients could retire in using natural materials and a selection of plants the homeowners appreciated.
From compact courtyards to countryside estates, every space we create is designed with intention and built to reflect how our clients live. Some are bold and architectural. Others are soft, serene and timeless. But all share one thing: thoughtful design, considered detail, and enduring quality.
We don’t do templates. Every project you see here is bespoke – shaped around the home, the people who live there, and the life they want to enjoy outside.

This elegant property deserved a garden that matched its stature - one that offered structure, purpose, and a variety of ways to enjoy the space year-round.
Located on the banks of the River Ouse, just outside York, the property blends traditional architecture with contemporary living. The garden, however, had become difficult to use for much of the year due to poor ground conditions and ineffective drainage.
“We are delighted with our new garden, which has been completely transformed by Richard and the team. From design through to completion, Astek were a pleasure to work with, and we would highly recommend them if you are considering re-landscaping.”
A timeless riverside garden that reflects the character of the house and the ambitions of its owners.

Set in a charming York neighbourhood, this rear garden was ready for a transformation - one that would turn it into a true extension of the home. Our clients envisioned a space for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying time with family (including their four-legged ones). Think: hot tub, BBQ, ambient lighting - the works.
Turning a plain and unused space into a fully usable all-year-round garden for cooking, dining and entertaining with family and friends.
Integrating all the clients’ wishes into a garden that felt entirely in context with the house required a considered, buildable design with enough space for each element to work together harmoniously.

A bespoke new build garden in York, designed to reflect a bold personal brief and brought to life through a carefully considered design and build process.
Working closely with our client and their build team ensured the garden was delivered smoothly and stayed true to the original vision. Design work is all about place, and people, so understanding both here was paramount.
For the design proposal, we created axis points from the main rear doors of the house. This linked up to the outbuilding doors, and we used this to our advantage. The structure of the garden came from there to radiate out and form the bones of the garden.
Every garden we design begins with a conversation – about how you live, what you love, and the kind of space you want to create.
If you’re ready to explore the possibilities for your own outdoor transformation, we’d love to hear from you.
